What to expect

At the Clinic, we offer sessions with both provisional psychologists, and fully registered (clinical registrar) psychologists. If you are unsure which service is right for you, please call our friendly administration team on 03 9035 5180 to discuss your options.

You do not need a GP referral to access the provisional psychology services; you can self-refer. To make an enquiry, please use the ‘enquire now’ button on this webpage. During the triage process, you’ll be asked to provide background information and your reasons for seeking the service.

Provisional psychologists are provisionally registered with the psychology registration board and supervised by a senior clinical psychologist. In addition, all sessions will be audio and video recorded for educational and teaching purposes. These are destroyed at the end of each year.

If you are interested in accessing the services of a provisional psychologist, a provisional psychologist working at the clinic will be in contact with you to discuss your presenting concerns. The provisional psychologist will then speak with their supervisor to determine whether we are the most appropriate service for your needs. If your presentation is appropriate for our service, you will be asked to come into the clinic to see the provisional psychologist.

Clinical registrar psychologists are fully registered general psychologists, who are undergoing a period of supervised practice to gain endorsement as a clinical psychologist. Clinical registrars are registered with Medicare and can accept Mental Health Care Plans enabling a rebate for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year. There remains and out-of-pocket cost for seeing generally registered psychologists. If you are interested in seeing a psychologist, your information will be passed on to your treating psychologist, and administration will contact you to book an appointment as soon as we have availability.
